September signals classrooms filling with fresh energy and new routines, but many young people find themselves asking a bigger question: What’s next for me?
While university might seem like the obvious next step, it’s not the only route to success. Apprenticeships are becoming a powerful alternative, offering hands-on experience, financial independence, and a direct path into meaningful careers.
Why Apprenticeships Matter
Apprenticeships combine learning with real-world impact. You’re not just gaining qualifications, you’re contributing to a team, solving real problems, and building skills that employers truly value. For those who prefer practical learning or want to avoid student debt, it’s a smart choice.
Alexis Zulueta: Building Her Career
Alexis Zulueta, joined us in August 2023 as an Apprentice Technical Consultant within our Business Apps & ERP team. Like many apprentices, she started with curiosity and courage, stepping into a new world with the support of her family, friends, and our Learning & Development team.
“I didn’t have many role models who’d taken this path, so it felt uncertain. But with the right support, I found the confidence to take that leap.”
By July 2025, Alexis had completed her apprenticeship and transitioned into a full-time role as Technical Consultant. Her journey reflects not just technical growth, but personal development, from confidence and communication to leadership and resilience.
“She’s shown remarkable growth — not just in technical expertise but in her approach to every challenge,” said Tom Race, Technical Account Manager. “Everyone loves working with her, and the results speak for themselves.”
Experiences That Inspire
Alexis’s apprenticeship opened doors to international travel, including a visit to Apsia in Italy, and a presentation at Microsoft’s London Paddington office, where she shared her story to inspire others.
“Asking questions isn’t a weakness — it’s a strength. It shows you’re ready to grow.”
Now, she’s sharpening her skills in project management, communication, and technical development, and learning how to lead with confidence.
Advice for Future Apprentices
“Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You don’t need to know everything from day one — what matters is your willingness to learn.”
Alexis’s story is a powerful reminder that success doesn’t follow a single path. Whether you’re heading back to school or stepping into the world of work, your journey is yours to shape.
