Sharp France helps the Evian Championship Grand Slam go digital
The Evian Championship women’s professional golf tournament is played at Évian-les-Bains (Haute-Savoie) each September, bringing together the best players in the world.
This year, visitors to the fifth and final Grand Slam of the women’s golf season, were able to get closer to the action, via Sharp screens showing footage from 360-cameras in real time.
Sharp Business Systems France, an official supplier for the event, also installed BIG PAD interactive displays in several exclusive member areas, offering among other features, a live video stream of the tournament. As a result, users could replay sequences, zoom in, display statistics and follow the competition from every angle.
Evian Championship official gazette
As well as digital displays, Sharp also provided the event organisers with a print system to produce a daily newspaper.
The Evian Championship organisers wished to edit and print the tournament’s official gazette on-site so it could be immediately distributed to the spectators at the tournament. More than 25,000 copies were printed throughout the competition, sharing practical information and schedule updates.
To complete this mammoth task, the Evian Championship organisers relied on a Sharp Polaris Office MX7040EU printing system. This delivered the gazette on time because it didn’t need to stop while the toner or paper were being replaced.
“The digital screens and the printing system that we deployed for the Evian Championship are without a doubt the best examples of how technology can support such an event: promoting the event content and facilitating its sharing and dissemination,” explained Nathalie Chamblain, Marketing Director at Sharp Business Systems for Southern Europe.
Opportunities to use digital technology could be found everywhere at the Evian Championship. Along with keeping spectators informed, digital tools were used to offer fun activities and other interactive experiences to everyone on-site.
For example, Sharp Business Systems France offered the opportunity for visitors to print their own postcards on-site and send them from the event. Sharp screens, arranged in the Evian Resort Golf Club clubhouse and open to the public, let users customise and edit their photos, before printing them from a latest generation Sharp colour printing system.
This “digital-to-print” experience attracted many curious fans and was met with great success, by associating original content with unique interactivity.
“For this event, we ensured that our digital tools brought real added value,” added Nathalie Chamblain. “We are particularly proud to have assisted in turning the Evian Championship into a truly digital experience and to have put our technology at the service of all.”
